Shirley entered the insurance field in 1973 when she moved to Houston. She began her career with Continental Insurance Companies at an entry level position and within 5 years was promoted to senior management. In 1980, she joined the agency side where she served as an office manager for two agencies in the Houston area prior to making the decision to go into sales.

Shirley worked with Sentry Insurance for three years selling both group benefits and property/casualty lines prior to joining GEM in 1993. She holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and is licensed as a General Lines Agent, and is qualified for Life, Accident, Health & HMO, as well as Property and Casualty.

Her book of business includes Bio-Technology and Life Science Research & Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Distribution accounts.
