Personal Umbrella

Excess liability policies are designed to provide an additional layer of liability coverage over your automobile, home, boat and other personal insurance policies.  Not only will excess liability policies pay covered damages from judgments where you are found legally liability but it also includes coverage for defense costs for covered losses.

Limits of coverage start at $1 million with higher limits available.

Excess Uninsured-Underinsured Motorist is available through some insurance companies.  This coverage is optional.

Because this is a second layer of coverage, the excess liability policy does require that you maintain certain limits of primary liability coverage.  These primary limits of coverage will respond before the excess liability policy responds.  Because of this, you are responsible for maintaining these primary limits of coverage.  The excess umbrella policy will state the required limits of primary coverage.

Your excess liability policy should list all properties owned, leased or furnished to you or your covered family members for regular use including but not limited to homes, automobiles, watercraft & recreational vehicles, etc. for coverage.
